Whiplash Treatment in Bradenton, FL

After a collision, the neck often feels fine for a day or two. That is normal, and it is why the clock matters.

Why you can feel fine at the scene

Whiplash is what happens when the head is thrown rapidly forward and back, faster than the neck muscles can brace for. The clinical name is a cervical acceleration-deceleration injury.

At the scene, adrenaline is doing its job and people routinely tell the officer they are fine. The stiffness, headache and difficulty turning to check a blind spot often arrive twenty-four to seventy-two hours later. That delay is ordinary, it is well documented, and it is the single most common reason people wait too long to get evaluated.

Florida gives you fourteen days

Under Florida’s personal injury protection law, you have 14 days from the date of the crash to seek initial services and care. Miss that window and the benefit can be lost, regardless of how the injury turns out. This is a procedural deadline, not a medical opinion — but it is the reason an evaluation in the first week is worth more than an evaluation in the third.

The part almost nobody tells you

Florida’s personal injury protection benefit is $10,000 when a qualifying provider determines an emergency medical condition, and $2,500 when no such determination is made.

Here is the part that matters, and we would rather say it plainly than have you find out later: a chiropractor is not among the providers permitted to make that determination. Under Florida law that determination comes from a medical doctor, an osteopathic physician, a dentist, an advanced practice registered nurse, or a hospital-based medical professional.

The practical consequence is real. A crash patient who sees only a chiropractor can end up capped at the lower amount without ever being told why. So when the findings warrant it, we say so and help coordinate the appropriate medical evaluation alongside chiropractic care. That is a clinical pathway, not a sales one, and we recommend it because it is the correct answer, not because it benefits us.

What the evaluation covers

We document what happened, examine how the neck and upper back are moving, check the nerves, and screen for the findings that need a medical evaluation rather than a chiropractic one. You get an explanation of what we found in ordinary language, and the visit is documented properly from day one, because accident care carries a paperwork requirement that ordinary neck pain does not.

Care for many people includes chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue work through the neck and upper back, and graded movement as tolerance improves.

When to seek emergency care instead

Go to an emergency department rather than a clinic if after a collision you have loss of consciousness, severe or worsening headache, repeated vomiting, weakness or numbness in the arms or legs, difficulty speaking or with balance, or severe neck pain with midline tenderness. Those are reasons for immediate medical evaluation.

Common questions

How long after a car accident do I have to get checked in Florida?

Fourteen days from the date of the crash to seek initial services and care under personal injury protection. It is a firm procedural deadline, and symptoms commonly do not appear until one to three days after the collision, which is what makes the window easy to miss.

I felt fine at the scene. Should I still be evaluated?

Usually yes. Adrenaline masks a great deal at the scene, and whiplash symptoms often surface 24 to 72 hours later. An evaluation inside the first week is both clinically sensible and procedurally important in Florida.

Can a chiropractor determine an emergency medical condition in Florida?

No. Under Florida law that determination is made by a medical doctor, an osteopathic physician, a dentist, an advanced practice registered nurse, or hospital-based medical personnel. It matters because it is the difference between the $10,000 and the $2,500 personal injury protection limit, and it is why we coordinate with medical providers when findings call for it.

It was a low-speed collision. Can that really cause whiplash?

Yes. Vehicle damage and occupant injury correlate less closely than most people expect. Low-speed rear-end impacts in stop-and-go traffic produce a meaningful share of the neck injuries we evaluate.
