What we mean by chronic pain
Pain is usually called chronic when it has lasted longer than about three months, or keeps coming back. For most people who walk into a chiropractic office it lives in the low back, the neck, the shoulders or the hips. It may be a dull ache most days with sharper flare-ups, or stiffness that never quite leaves.
Long-lasting pain is real pain. It is also more complicated than a fresh injury, because sleep, stress, activity and the way you have learned to move around it all start to play a part. That is why a quick fix is rarely the honest answer.
Why it keeps coming back
Pain is a smoke alarm, and after months of going off it can become sensitive — it rings at things that used to be fine. Meanwhile the body adapts: a hip that stopped moving well, a shoulder you protect, a back you keep stiff on purpose. Those adaptations make sense at the time and can keep the cycle going.
Dr. Matt and his professional care team look for the parts of that cycle that can still change — how joints move, how muscles are carrying load, and what your day asks of your body.
What we see around Manatee County
- Years of physical work. Construction, landscaping, boat and dock work and hospitality shifts leave a lot of people with a back or neck that has carried more than its share.
- An old car-accident injury. Neck and back pain from a collision on US-41, Manatee Avenue or I-75 that was never fully looked after can linger for years.
- Retirement plans on hold. Pickleball, golf, fishing and keeping up with grandchildren are why many people moved here — and why ongoing pain is so frustrating.
- Long hours sitting. Commutes, desk work and long drives home from Tampa or Sarasota all keep the spine in one position for too long.
How care usually works
A first visit is a conversation and an examination. We ask how it started, what has already been tried, and what you most want to get back to. We test how your spine and joints move and check the nerves. Then we explain what we found in plain language and lay out the options — including when we think a different provider is the better fit.
Care for long-lasting pain is usually a plan rather than a single visit. It may include chiropractic adjustments, hands-on soft tissue therapy, and corrective exercise you do at home so progress holds between visits. We are glad to work alongside your medical doctor.
When it is not a chiropractic problem
This is the part most clinics leave out, and it matters more than anything else on this page.
Common questions
Can a chiropractor help with chronic pain?
For many people with long-lasting back, neck or joint pain, conservative chiropractic care is a reasonable part of the plan. It is not the answer for every kind of chronic pain, and we will tell you if we think another provider should take the lead.
How long will it take?
There is no fixed time frame, and anyone promising one is guessing. Pain that has been around for months often takes longer to change than a fresh injury. We set check-in points so you can see whether care is helping.
Do you work with my medical doctor?
Yes. We are glad to coordinate with your primary care doctor or specialist, and we explain our findings in plain language so you can share them.
Do you take insurance?
We work with many major plans, including Medicare, and we handle the insurance paperwork. Call the office and we will check your coverage.
Long-lasting pain usually has a home base. If yours sits mostly in the low back, see back pain care; if it is in the neck and shoulders, see neck pain care. Pain that feels stiff more than sharp is covered in muscle stiffness. All of it begins with the same evaluation at our Bradenton chiropractic clinic on 6th Avenue East.
